Video Games: Past and Present

Do you remember the classics such as Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Metroid, and Mega Man? I know I am talking as if these game are no longer being played, but the truth is, they just aren't like they used to be. Video games from about a decade ago were captivating, exciting, and inexpensive. Kids all around the world were staying up far past their bed time just to conquer the last dungeon of Zelda or beat the final boss of Metroid. It is true that we have come a long way from the video games of yesterday in the aspects of graphics and story lines, but all the fun is over in a couple of hours. Video games today are far too short. Many of the new games that have come out or are coming out can be beaten in less than half a day. The question may be asked- what is going on in the gaming industry? The answer is simple- money! Nowadays, video game producers are only focused on throwing together a piece of junk and shipping it out first thing in the morning. They don't care about the quality of the game or the satisfaction of the gamer. Back then, video games were not only lengthy but also challenging. I remember playing games like Zelda: Link's Awakening for the Game boy and getting stuck in certain spots for hours. Games like this actually required a person to use critical thinking skills. When you finally figured out what to do, the feeling was priceless. Pokemon is another game that was better back then then it is now. First of all, the game was pretty challenging. Second, the pokemon actually looked like someone spent time creating them.
The list of classic games is endless. Video game producers need to stop, hit the refresh button, and start over. After all, video games were created for people to have fun, not for the producer to make a lot of money. If time and effort was put into making video games nowadays, the endless glitches and loopholes would be eliminated. If games go back to being made the way they should, I might actually be able to play Lego Star Wars without Obi Wan walking through walls.
